Single Market and the Euro interviews

Pervenche Berès

MEP (1994-2019)

Chair of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs 2004-2009

Chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs 2009-2014

Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis 2009-2011

'It started as an economic idea. But the dynamic behind it is obviously much more. It was meant to be the cement of the EU... Since the beginning in 1957 , you have the idea that we need to be a free market and we need fair competition among us... The Internal Market was also a way to know the others better and to have an exchange. It was somehow a foreign policy without saying it.'
